Seborrheaic Dermatitis- how you can control the Flaky SCALP condition...

Do I have Seborrhoeic Dermatitis?

According to Wikipedia, its defined as:

Seborrhoeic dermatitis (also seborrheic dermatitis , seborrhea) (also known as "seborrheic eczema"[1]) is an inflammatory[2]skin disorder affecting the scalp, face, and torso. Typically, seborrheic dermatitis presents with scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin. It particularly affects the sebum-gland rich areas of skin. In adolescents and adults, seborrhoeic dermatitis usually presents as scalp scaling (dandruff).

In other words it is:

Classic flakes on the scalp
A series of dry, itchy, flaky patches, that vary in size and thickness that usually occur on the scalp, especially around the hair margins in the front and on the sides and in the back of the head.  It can also appear on the skin, behind the ears and on eyebrows.

Does it cause Hair loss?

The condition itself does not cause hair-loss,

However the constant rubbing, itching and scratching of the hair can begin to thin around the edges.  If left untreated the scaling or flakes really build up and when they lift up, in my experience that can cause hair-loss!!

Who can get it??

Up to 30% of the population is affected with seborrheic dermatitis, but most do not know the condition by name. It can come and go with flare ups occurring during the winter months when it is cooler and drier. It can also flare up in association with stress and anxiety, such as that due to exams in school, deadlines at work or hormonal changes,  , sales quotas to meet, or financial difficulties.

The very first sign of the condition is even seen in babies, Cradle cap is a mild version of the condition.

This condition does not spread by transferring it from one part of the body to another or from person to person. It is genetic and frequently affects multiple family members in different generations.

Curing and controlling...Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

In my experience there is no flat-out cure for Seborrhoeic Dermatitis however these are the tips I want to share that helped me to control and keep my condition at bay!

1)  Get a prescribed shampoo from the doctors, I used to use:
The shampoo- I recommend!

Nizoral:

Clinical studies have shown that Nizoral can also stimulate hair growth; with one study showing that 2% ketocanazole (Nizorals primary ingredient) was as effective as minoxidil at treating male hair-loss!

I liked the shampoo for controlling the itching, flakes and cleansing the scalp.

However I did not like the DRYING effect it had on my hair so my tips are to avoid that effect:

  • Slather your hair in conditioner, leaving a cm of hair near to the scalp clear.
  • If your hair is long enough, braid the hair in 4 loose sections.  You will leave these in whilst you was the scalp. (this will eliminate tangling)
  • Dilute 1oz of the shampoo in a cup of water, this will make it easier to apply to the scalp.
  • Pour the diluted shampoo over the scalp and gently massage in, do Not Scratch, you don't want to cut your scalp.
  • Leave the shampoo on the scalp for 5-8 minutes, it needs time to penetrate the flakes.
  • Proceed to wash out, loosening 1 braid at a time to wash away any flakes that may have come away and traveled down into your braided hair.
Finally follow up with a Deep Conditioning treatment, at least 1 x a week!

Repeat this shampoo technique every other day, until the flakes have sufficiently been removed.

In order to control the sometimes embarrassing flakes on my scalp I also created my own oil, now called the SCALP Hydration Serum, available at Pak's cosmetics, or online at www.root2tip.com.

The oil is 100% Natural, an it soothes the scalp, stops itching and helps to re-grow thinning hair.

The Scalp Hydration Serum contains the natural mineral SULFUR, which is a key ingredient I believe in controlling Seborrhoeic Dermatitis, and also other scalp conditions, like
Psoriasis ( which is a chronic immune-mediated disease that appears on the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells.)

Why it works on the scalp??

The sulfur extract is in a base of scalp loving vegetable oils, that are not heavy, but provide enough hydration to stop itching, coupled with an essential oil extract that helps to stimulate growth.

I used that oil daily and My scalp Tonic The ROOT Energizer, 2 x a week, to also help with hair growth.

Progress:

I made great progress when I followed the above routine in controlling my Seborrhoeic Dermatitis,

I managed to achieve thicker stronger hair, as a result of the scalp oils I was using, and my hair remained healthy.

2 great 100% Natural oils!

Do not think you are alone with this condition, you are not!!

Although there is no real cure, you can control it and keep it away!!

Control your condition do not let it control you.

Whatever you do don't ignore it, and always seek Medical advice!

Blessings,

Sal

Can I Thicken My Hair?

Thin hair v Thick hair...

These are my 10 tips to getting thicker hair!!

Ladies whats your flavour?

I will almost always choose Short thick hair over Thin long hair ANY DAY!

So these are my tips to thickening your hair that's always been thin  and lifeless!!

1)  Be prepared to do something different to gain a different result with your hair!!

Let me repeat that, let me take it to church ladies...lol!

''BE READY TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT- to GET SOMETHING YOU HAVE NEVER HAD!!

2)  If you hair is relaxed and thin, try s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g  the relaxer touch-ups out!!

Why?

The longer you wait to relax the roots of your hair, the thicker the roots will be, you will have less chance of over-lapping your hair and creating that skinny hair look you are trying to change!!

3)  Invest in the Healthy Scalp pack, from ROOT2TiP... it consists of 2  scalp oils that are 100% natural and will help to stimulate GROWTH, eliminate your DRY itchy scalp and create an environment in your scalp that promotes thicker, healthier hair GROWTH!!

Don't believe it works?

check out these pics from people who use it:

5 months of PROGRESS after the Big Chop!!
5 Months in a weave and growth from the HEALTHY Hair pack from root2tip!

So what is the Healthy Haircare pack??

Introducing...

The Healthy Hair-care pack from ROOT2TiP, avavilable from www.root2tip.com or PAK's Cosmetics!!

4)  Give your hair some much needed attention daily:  Moisturise your hair daily especially the ends.

Use a water based moisturiser or creme.

5) If your natural or relaxed,  try an indirect heat regime for 12 months:  i.e. No blow-dryers, they really can thin the hair out when used frequently- Air-dry your hair instead!

Your hair loves to be AIR-dried, it will get MUCH thicker over time!!
6)  If you like to flat-iron your hair, then Air-dry it first, then flat-iron it, do not double up on the heat!!  that will thin your hair out over time.

Always use a heat protectant too!!

7)  Eat a diet rich in Protein, to grow thicker hair internally!!

Try Eggs for breakfast  in the morning!!

Your hair is made from PROTEIN, so eat plenty of it to GROW thicker stronger hair!!

8) Keep your scalp clean, so it is easy for it to grow the hair you want!!

A plant wont grow well in soil that's dirty, dry and under nourished,  neither will your hair!!

Try to co-wash every couple of days to ensure your scalp is clean and free to grow thicker hair!!

9) Exercise regularly to keep your body healthy and increase the circulation of blood-flow to your head!

Try to work-out at least 3 times a week!

10)  Don't Stress- whenever you are stressed your hair can be the first things that will take the brunt of it.  You may experience hair shedding, or alopecia as a result of stress, so relax, PRAY and keep stress at bay, to start enjoying thicker hair today!!

Stay Blessed,

Sal

AVOID Sun hair Damage this SUMMER!!

PROTECT Your Hair this SUMMER!!

Avoid your hair and scalp getting SCORCHED this summer

Summer Hair facts!!

Invest in a sun hat and protect your hair from the UV rays, in the same sense that your skin can suffer if not protected in the sunshine, your hair is the same!

WHY??

"Hair fibre, is basically a protein and hence is susceptible to damage due to heat and UV rays, just like your skin.

The sun's rays can work just like a too-hot hair dryer. So, the main advice about hair care that can help lower summer hair damage is to avoid using a hot hair dryer too often whilst its the summer season!

"If you have long hair wear it up in knots, braids or buns. Avoid leaving your hair open when out in the sun!

Ensure you hair is well moisturised and conditioned prior to the leaving the house on a sunny day. The heat from the sun causes your hair to lose moisture fast!

Simple tips and a little attention paid to the 'crowning glory' can help you maintain your luscious mane even during the scorching heat this summer.

Sal Wyn

Tangle Teezer Review...I love it!

My Review of the Tangle TEEZER!

I am a  big fan of finger combing, and generally not really using any kind of tool to comb my hair through at all, well...apart from my shower comb, I tend to really use soft brushes on my hair, however I thought I would check out the raves behind the name...The Tangle Teezer!

I popped into my local BOOTS and picked up the brightest pink one they had, I actually brought it for me daughter’s highly tangly hair and I wasn’t expecting much:  It’s not really a comb more like a brush!

Pro’s:

• The teeth are flexible
• The teeth are short
The teeth are the exactly the same as a doll’s brush my daughter has I had   accidentally discovered was good for my hair and been using a couple of months back and loved!
• It’s comfortable to hold!
• You will not get any breakage from the use of this, if you do- your hair maybe is in need of a protein treatment!
• It’s easy to clean
• It massages your scalp gently too!

Con’s

• None that I can mention
• The price of £10-13.00 I don’t mind, it’s an investment in self!

So I would say go get it ladies, it’s really worth it, it detangles the hair beautifully from ROOT2TiP,

The Tangle Teezer, a curls best friend? That’s debatable, all I know is I LOVE the comb, brush teezer thingy!

Blessings,

Sal
